Trio cares about community, not party politics

| April 28, 2024 1:00 AM

Any qualified elector (18 years old and U.S. citizen) is eligible to hold any office of this state (ID Code 59-101)? That is the ONLY criteria one must meet. A sheriff needs no law enforcement training. A coroner needs no medical credentials. A treasurer needs no bookkeeping background. An assessor needs no real estate expertise.

Apparently, the Idaho Legislature believes that voters know the candidates best. Unfortunately, in today’s culture, some candidates attempt to build themselves up in the eyes of the voters by tearing their opponents down with lies, innuendo and outrageous claims.

We are receiving an overabundance of political mailers with candidates touting their qualifications. Some boldly proclaim “I am a Christian.” As we know, in the United States we are free to practice (or not practice) any religion. For myself, claiming to be a Christian is not a primary criteria for supporting a candidate.

Scripture tells us the fruits of the spirit include: love, peace, kindness, goodness, temperance, and patience. A reflection of these virtues would be compassion and a moral character that is respectful and concerned for the welfare of others. I urge you to examine the claims of these “Christians” before you cast your vote.

I will be voting for Luke Omodt, Jim Woodward and Mark Sauter who are genuinely concerned for our welfare, and who honor the rules of law, not party politics. I hope you will join me. Every vote counts!
