PREP TRACK & FIELD: David has breakthrough day for Bulldogs at District 1 Meet of Champions

POST FALLS — Sandpoint senior Alex David threw a new personal best mark of 110 feet and 6 inches to win the javelin for the Bulldogs, who had 19 top five individual finishes at the District 1 Meet of Champions hosted by Post Falls High on Thursday.

For the girls, Ivy Smith won the shot put and placed second in the discus. Ani Vick placed second in both the 100 hurdles (16.41) and 300 hurdles (47.31), setting new personal bests in each event yet again. Jetta Thaete (javelin) and Elia Howard (100) also picked up big second-place finishes. Izzy Davidson was third in the pole vault, Grace Rookey fourth in the 800, and Saige Smith fourth in the triple jump with a new personal best of 32 feet and 5 inches.

For the boys, Paul Kent won the 3200 and Klein Fragoso the pole vault to lead the way for Sandpoint. Jett Longanecker set a new personal best time of 51.04 seconds in the 400 to place third. Daniel Ricks was second in the 3200 and fifth in the 800 with a new personal best time of 1:58.17. Isaac Schmit was fifth with a new personal best time of 11.43 seconds in the 100; he also placed fifth in the 200. The Bulldogs’ 4x200 relay consisting of Van Lee, Ryder Haynes, Schmit, and Longanecker ran the fifth-fastest time in school history (1:32.94) to place second.

Also impressive were Priest River’s Gavin Griesmer, who won the boys’ javelin with a new personal best throw of 144 feet and 4 inches, beating his previous best by exactly 8 feet. Brayden Lammanna was third in the 3200 with a new personal best time of 10:17.14. Carter Korff was third for the Spartans in the long jump, clearing 20 feet for the third time this season. Clark Fork’s Wyatt Mintken, Dillon Ryan-Downing, Carson Yetter, and Westin Caven broke the four-minute barrier for the first time in the 1600 sprint medley relay, finishing fourth in 3:57.21. Mintken also placed fifth in the triple jump with a new personal best mark of 39 feet and five inches.

Sandpoint will be back in action Thursday at the District 1-2 4A/5A Championships hosted by Coeur d’Alene High. Priest River heads to St. Maries High on Friday for the District 1-2 2A Championships. Clark Fork is at Lapwai High on Friday for the District 1-2 1A Championships.
