JANUARY 10

Adult Goju Ryu Karate - Lewiston Parks & Recreation is pleased to offer Adult Beginner Goju Ryu Karate. It's never too late to learn martial arts, and instructor Christian Scharnhorst is now teaching this brand-new entry level class for adults. Learn all of the basics in this motivating class. The six-week course is from 5:30-6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays, Jan. 17 to Feb. 21, at Lewiston Community Center. The cost for the class is $50 per person. Gis are not required but recommended, and can be purchased from the instructor. Pre-registration is required by Jan. 10.

JANUARY 11

Youth martial arts - Lewiston Parks & Recreation is offering a brand new Judo and Jiujitsu class for kids of all ages this winter. The six-week course will teach participants invaluable techniques in self-defense, balance, and mental and physical toughness. Each student will receive a certificate of completion if able to demonstrate proficiency to instructors. A Judo gi is not included, but recommended. Participants who sign up with a partner of equal size will benefit greatly. The class runs from 6-8 p.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 18 to Feb. 22, at the Lewiston Community Center. The cost is $50 per person, with pre-registration required by Jan. 11.

JANUARY 12

Adult Co-Ed Volleyball - This unofficiated Lewiston Parks & Recreation league consists of a 12-match season in January and February, with the option of a Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday 6-10 p.m. match schedule. All matches will be held at Fenton Gym. Participants must register in teams of at least eight. Team sponsorships are allowed and encouraged. The cost is $150/team and $30 each for player cards. Pre-registration is required by Jan. 12.

Sports Skills Camp - Lewiston Parks and Recreation's Sports Skills Camp for children ages three-to-six provides children (and parents) introductory skills in their choice of basketball, soccer and baseball/softball. Five different stations will break down specific skills. Those selecting baseball/softball will need to bring gloves. The classes are all on Saturdays at Fenton Gym (1203 8th Ave, Lewiston) - 10-10:45 a.m. for ages three-to-four, 11-11:45 a.m. for ages five-to-six. Soccer camp will be held January 20 and 27; basketball camp February 3 and 10; and baseball/softball camp February 17 and 24. The cost is $17 per sport camp or $35 for all three. Participants who sign up for all three sports will receive a free T-shirt. Pre-registration is required by Jan. 12.

JANUARY 25

grangeville girls' basketball tournament - For more information on a basketball tournament available to girls' in fourth through eighth grades, contact Pat Sullivan by phone at (208) 507-1830 or by email at sullivanp@sd244.org. The signup deadline is Jan. 25 and the tournament will take place Feb. 2-3. Cost for the tournament, which will be held at the Grangeville Junior High School, is $190. Each team is guaranteed three games.

BATTLE basketball Tournament - Battle Basketball will hold a two-day tournament for area AAU teams on Feb. 2-3, though the last deadline to register is Jan. 27. That's the late deadline, which costs $175 to enter. Those who enter by Jan. 24 can save $25 off the price. The tournament, which will happen in gyms throughout the Lewis-Clark valley, is open to boys and girls in the fourth through eighth grades.
