LETTER TO THE EDITOR: We must let legislators know we value our lives

Expanded Medicaid is keeping many hospitals open in our country, especially in rural areas. The Missouri legislature refuses to expand — and in fact, is sponsoring legislation to cut back eligibility for coverage. This type of thinking has resulted in seven rural hospitals closing recently. More are on the way as emergency room costs are rising, while fewer people have insurance.

Expanded Medicaid is part of Obamacare, which Republicans hate. However, it is our lives at risk. It appears to be time for us to be more concerned for our lives than the legislators’ politics.

We must let them know we value the lives of our families.

Martin Walsh is a resident of Glendale, Missouri.
