Asotin's Colton Ball got just one full season as the main offensive weapon for his school's prep football team, but he made it count. Ball rushed for 1,740 yards and scored 24 touchdowns this past fall.

Numbers like those helped the Panthers reach the Washington Class 2B state semifinals for a second straight year, and Ball secure a scholarship after the season to Carroll College, with whom he recently signed.

The NAIA school from Helena, Mont., announced Ball's signing in a Tweet on Wednesday. Later, Lind-Ritzville-Sprague's coach, Greg Whitmore, responded below the post, "You got a good one."

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Ball had a big impact on defense as well. He led Asotin with 163 tackles, 51 of them solo, and Carroll's announcement pegged him as an outside linebacker, perhaps where he'll play at the next level.

Loggers bolster trenches

The Lewis-Clark Valley Loggers football team has signed nine high school recruits, with the entire class hailing from the state of Idaho, the program announced Thursday.

The program inked five players who could see playing time on the offensive and defensive lines, including 330-pound standout Trevor Driskell of Parma and Centennial star Jose Martinez.

Luc Dalton - linebacker and defensive end, 6-0, 200, Boise High

Skyler Schuchardt - linebacker, 5-10, 185, Boise High

Jose Martinez - offensive and defensive tackle, 6-2, 270, Centennial High (Boise)

UI seeks calls for the Hall

MOSCOW - The University of Idaho is currently seeking nominations for the Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame, according to a news release issued Thursday by the institution.

The general public can submit recommendations for former student-athletes, coaches, teams and contributors, which will then be reviewed by the Hall of Fame committee.

The online nomination form is available at GoVandals.com/HOF and will be open until March 9. An induction ceremony will be held Sept. 7 after the Hall of Fame class is announced in the late spring.
