I believe most gun owners in our state are law-abiding, responsible citizens who care deeply about the sanctity of life. Recent polls show that the vast majority of gun owners support longer waiting periods and stricter background checks for gun purchases. A majority of gun owners also favor age restrictions and limiting the availability of assault weapons. So why do our elected officials choose to ignore constituents by loosening gun regulation in our state instead of strengthening it? By doing so they are putting our children, teachers, law enforcement officers and all residents at risk.
We have speeding laws in our state. And in vulnerable places such as schools, we add speed bumps and flashing lights to ensure more compliance. Shouldn’t there be comprehensive “speed bumps” in place to deter potential gun violence? Call, email or write your local and state representatives. And use your most powerful weapon — VOTE.
