Holland named boardercross rider of the year

SANDPOINT -- Nate Holland was named the 2004 "U.S. Boardercross Rider of the Year" by Ski Racing, the official magazine of the US Ski & Snowboard Association in their end of season May issue featuring their 2004 Athlete of the Year Awards.

USSA also recently named Holland to their "A" Team for next season's World Cup events scheduled in Chile, Switzerland, France, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Canada and the USA. Holland's goal is to again have a successful season so as to make the 2006 "A" Team for the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy.

In past seasons, Holland competed in everything from racing to slopestyle. The diverse portfolio paid dividends this season, during which Holland took top 10s in every event he entered, including a win at the X Games in Ultracross and another first at the Grand Prix that earned him the national champion title.

"My whole thing is riding the whole mountain. ... I think that's what allows me to be good at boardercross," explains Holland.

Holland was born and raised in Sandpoint, but now resides at Lake Tahoe and trains at Squaw Mt.
