PSB moves on over to new site Posted: Sunday, May 11, 2008 - 11:46:43 am PDT By CONOR CHRISTOFFERSON Staff writer
SANDPOINT - Brick by brick, Panhandle State Bank's Sandpoint Center has grown into a 94,000-square-foot banking supercenter. Monday, the building will officially open its doors to the public for its first day of business.
Construction crews spent nearly two years on the project, and those who are closest to it are ready to finally call the building home.
“I'm extremely excited and proud that the bank has been able to accomplish this and give something back to the community,” said Panhandle State Bank vice president Travis Kaul. “To finally see the end and open the doors to show people what we've been working on is amazing.”
While the bank doesn't officially open until Monday, several departments have already transitioned into the new building, leaving only 25 employees from the home loan center and branch to make the one-block trip to the new facilities.
Kaul said staff members have been counting down the days and are anxious to make the move.
“There's a lot of excitement from the staff to get into the new location. The technology's so much better over there and we're not so cramped,” Kaul said.
The bank's information technology department has been in the new building for nearly two months honing the new operating systems to insure that no glitches come up on day one.
Kaul said all systems have been checked and rechecked, and he is confident that the bank will make a smooth transition to its new headquarters.
No events are planned for Monday, but on Friday the bank will celebrate its 27th anniversary by inviting residents to come over to tour the facilities and enjoy hot dogs and ice cream floats.
“We're anticipating that a lot of people will come to see the new location and we're excited to show it off, to show our customers and the community,” Kaul said.

" colleen: If you were here in the early 70's the same things were said about the Federal building. No one complains about it now. Give it some time, it may grow on you. "

" Ok, let's see. $33million to build this building and you can't lease out a square foot. No wonder the costs of doing business with PSB have increased. This is a monument to Curt Hecker and Jack Parker's ego - plain and simple. What a bunch of dunces. "

" Sandpoint is no longer MAYBERRY when the county changed from a lumber based economy to a tourist/vacation driven economy.....Change was inevitable! Out with old in with the new! "

" Marvin: As I understand it, since Fifth Ave is also US Hwy 95 and 2, ITD decides whether or not to install stop signs--not the city council. I do agree, however, that stop signs and crosswalks would be helpful where Oak meets Fourth and Third, especially if Sandpoint still wants to call itself "a walking town," not a "get hit by a car town." " You call this giving back to communitythis building is an atrocity! Yes, an act of violence to our community. NO one was thinking hereThe architecture doesnt fit, blend or match Sandpoints wonderful rural community. You didnt even plan good parkingThe architecture can be found in every large town across USA. This is nothing splendid; nothing added to our communityits a gigantic overpowering eye soreat best. Giving back to the community would have meant you would have kept Sandpoint quaint looking. You could have created a beautiful old looking building in the same era of the old building down town. God knows you spent enough money. Just look at what CWC did to the old building. If the Sandpoint Business District, commissioner and mayor all pasted their votes for this atrocity then I ask are you going to tear down the rest of Sandpoint to match. Dont be proud What you did was make Sandpoint look like every town across the nation.and Sandpoint wasnt like that I hope you will stop changing Sandpoint. "

" At least now I can see where the interest that I would have normally recieve on my savings accounts went. I now bank on line and get a better interest rate on my savings. PSB pays lousy rates. "

" It will be interesting to see how the traffic flow unfolds as the bank gets up to ramming speed. It should come to at total stand still at peek traffic times around the bank. Someone will probably get run over at 4th and Oak or 3rd and Oak or on Chruch or 5th Ave. I've just about given up on the city to install 4 way stops in that area. Mr. Cody explained to me that the city council pulls the trigger on those matters so get hold of them when you've had enough. "
