Sara Palin and I share Sandpoint as our birthtown. A bit of a difference in the 'when' of it--I was born in Sandpoint Hospital May 17, 1915. Just discovered the masthead of the internet Bee and Guestbook. I left the town in 1937 and have lived in the East US since-now in Portland, Maine. Only a few of my friends still live in the town. I would like to hear from others. The Bee is helping me keep in touch with them and is my daily source for all of the current happenings via the Bee website. Doug Guy

Peter, You have got to be kidding? Celebrate Sarah Palin and her birth place? I am sure Sandpoint has more famous people to celebrate then Sarah. Sarah would have remained an unknown to Idaho had John McCain not made the mistake of selecting her as a running mate.

I don't live in Sandpoint, but I wanted to acknowledge your city as the birthplace of a great American, Sarah Palin. She was born 45 years ago today. You have a lot to be proud of, so celebrate!

In all honesty judge, you should have given the spitter at least a seven day sentence for contempt of court. That type of disrespect for the law should be dealt with harshly.

I had a wonderful experience last week in my travels to sandpoint. My family and I went to Zips. During our meal our daughter was throwing a fit and crying quite loudly. An employee named Troy came over and offered her a lolly pop and after a few minute of him talking to her she was full of laughs and smiling. It is nice to see this kind of kindness in people. Thanks to Zips and Troy for a wonderful time while in Sandpoint.

I lived in Sagle and Sandpoint for several years in late 50s and early 60s. Graduated from SHS Class of '64. Now living in So Cal (Ventura County) and just can't wait to get out of here. Sandpoint was a great community and it was a great experience. A true jewel of an area and wonderful place to live if you like cold winters. I hope the City continues to be a great place and does not become "CALIFORNIACATED". I was a founding member of the "Igniters" car club and just loved the cruises; watching Skip Pucci's great '51 Chevy as well as Mike Bartelson's '53 Merc powered Model A. Great days at Deer Park Airport!!! Best Wishes to all

I moved to Bonner County area in Nov. 1990. I came from rain to snow which I never seen befor at the age of 9. I moved to a big city in 2000 thinking that the city was what I never had and always wanted. I got married to the man of my dream and realized that after nearly 5 years the city was never ME. I moved my husband and son back here in Oct. 2004 and now intend on staying forever. This is my home and the same to many others who still wave to each other, hug one another and grow together. This is the place to be.

We lived in the Sandpoint area late 80s through 1990 something. My son, Justin, was born in Sandpoint. From then until now, Im still a friend of Bob and Bill. I havent seen a meeting in a decade or more. And Justin, grew up a fine man ; he is now a US MARINE. 3rd BN 5th MARINE. Before my blessing of his enlistment- he had to give me ONE good reason- especially in this time of the world. Without hesitation, *I want to be the first in our family to do something honorable- that will last a lifetime.* Cheers- ae

We look forward to reading the Bee on the internet. We lived in Sandpoint all of our lives until 2000 when we moved to Arizona to get out of the cold weather. We like reading about all that is happening in the area and about who passed on. It keeps us close to our roots.

i came to sandpoint in july of 2006 for the first time since 1964. my father had a failed beer and pop distributorship in sandpoint in the '50s. i noticed in an article from the daily bee that it is still called the old dewitz bottling works building. i went there last summer while i was in sandpoint. except for the missing spur railroad tracks, it hadn't changed at all. it was truly unbelievable just how little it had changed. i keep up with sandpoint through the daily bee, and i have seen the rise in property taxes etc, which will lead to a very rich population in sandpoint, rather than a mixed population. back in the '50s, everyone was poor, and as i look back on it, pretty happy too. i was so thrilled to see that the town planners over the years didn't drop the city codes, and have kept sandpoint just like it was so many years ago. on the other hand, i stayed at motel 6 in ponderay while there, and it was sitting almost on the spot of the house i lived in across from tibbetts motel. what a joy to see tibbetts street there named after those wonderful people. now i can't decide if a wealthy community or a poor one is best. i do know this. people in bonner county still keep a secret where they find the best morells and huckleberries. i went mushrooming time and again over the years and just want to cry when i see where commercial chefs etc are there in the mountains gleening every succulent morsel they can find. in ponderay i see a town that will do anything for the buck, since sandpoint won't. even the wonderful post office with its flower boxes in the windows was the same in sandpoint. thank you so much for the daily bee. linda dewitz yancey

i came back to Sandpoint last summer in july for several days. it was the 1st time i have been there since i grew up there in the 1950's. you just can't imagine my joy at sandpoint today. when i grew up there 50 years ago, it was nirvana. i have never gotten far from my idaho roots. always in tune with the world in general so to speak. i read the daily bee all the time and keep up with the new and old things. you can be sure that if it will fly in sandpoint, it will fly all over the world. most people would think that northern idaho is the farthest place in the world that would be a place that all people all over the world could relate to. having been so many places, i can tell you that sandpoint is still nirvana. my father had a pop and beer business, dewitz bottling co, in sandpoint in the 1950's. in the summer i would ride all over north idaho with him delivering pop and beer to all the taverns, eating places and road houses that flourished at the time. i was quite surprised to see the old bottling works still there with an antique shop in it. how cool. he actually was a terrible rounder and lost the business, but still would be so happy to see the building is still there. i have watched the rise in taxes in sandpoint, and been so flabergasted at the cost of the land taxes, but after mulling it over for a long time i have to say that although i probably would not be able to live there again due to the high land taxes, it does have the effect of keeping sandpoint a pristine place to live. while in sandpoint last summer, we stayed at the motel 6 or 8(?) in ponderay. it was so cool since my house in 1959 was almost on the same spot and i could look out at the same view as i did as a teenie bopper. the short cut to the kootenai bypass was named tibbetts after my neighbors ella tibbetts and her husband who were such wonderful people. most of the time a place or a person does not know of the impact they have on a generation, so i wanted to let you know that as far as i am concerned, sandpoint is still the cat's meow. as odd things happen, my partner in life is from southern missouri, and his father was in the navy during wwii. he actually went to boot camp at farragut and while we were there we went to bayview and toured the area. he was so thrilled to see all the places he had heard his dad talk about. small world isn't it? linda dewitz yancey

I grew up in Sandpoint and graduated 1976. My mother still lives there. This is my way of keeping up with the news and always having something to talk to her about when I call. I am so thankful I can access the paper online. I pay mom's subscription to the Bee so she can stay up on the local happenings! Thank, Cindy Weber (Arkansas)

I was a former resident (92-98) and have really been out of touch with friends from the local area. I know it's been a while, but I am really curious as to how some businesses are faring, such as: The Pend Oreille Brewing Company, Bradley's, the resaurant at the end of the long bridge (sagle side). The real reason I want to know is, I now live in Australia, and don't have any immediate plans on visiting til '08. I ask about those businesses is because I did have a hand in their inceptions. Thanks for letting me question.
