SANDPOINT — The community is invited to come and learn from Nick and Laura Armstrong of Boise as they discuss refugee resettlement in the United States.
The Armstrongs co-lead an organization called GloCal, in partnership with World Relief and the International Rescue Committee. The primary purpose of their work is building friendships and welcoming the stranger.
So often fear and rumor guide our opinions and decisions. We will hear, first-hand, how refugees are screened, gain legal status, and get admitted to the US. Nick and Laura will also share ways communities and individuals can help refugees become citizens. Refugees are not immigrants looking for better lives in the US. Refugees are people fleeing for their lives from war and political or religious persecution.
The event will be held in the Sandpoint Community Hall, 5:30-7:30 pm, Wednesday, August 16. It is being sponsored by “follow ~ a community” and the Bonner County Human Rights Task Force.
