SANDPOINT — Love is in the air and entertainment is everywhere this week, with a spate of fine concerts, film series, dances and more.

Check out ‘The Lowest Pair’ in concert tonight at the Panida Little Theater, with Jake Robin as the opener. Also tonight and running through Saturday, Oscar Nominated Short Films at the Panida.

Friday evening, there’s a Contra Dance at Community Hall and Sunday, POAC presents the Montreal Guitare Trio in concert. Speaking of guitar, Leon Atkinson has a special Valentine’s Day concert on tap at the Panida, as well.

But that’s not the half of it — check out these fun things to do:

Thursday, Feb. 8

The Lowest Pair

Venue: Panida Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 6 p.m., music starts at 6:30 p.m.

An intimate, acoustic evening with The Lowest Pair — a sultry country folk duo out of Olympia, Wash. Sandpoint’s own singer/songwriter Jake Robin will warm things up.

Admission: $15 in advance, $17 at the door, under 12 free, available in advance at Eichardt’s Pub, Loaf & Ladle or online at: www.panida.org

Oscar Nominated Shorts

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Open Mic with Kevin Dorin ll

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6-9 p.m.

Come out for a positive environment to share your passion or just come to take it all in! All levels of performers are welcome. The set will be recorded live and artists will have access to the audio! Also, this an opportunity for you to work with a professional sound guy who will work to mic you up and get your levels to show the best version of you.

Admission: Free to those 21 and over.

Friday, Feb. 9

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Celebrate the joys of community by dancing with friends — those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Live music will be provided by InTentCity and all dances will be called by Emily Faulkner. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm. Bring clean, comfortable, non-marking shoes to dance in.

Admission: Suggested donation is $5 per person, $20 for families. Please bring finger food or snacks to share at the break. Sponsored by Emily Faulkner, Lost Horse Press and Sandpoint Parks & Rec.

Ron Greene

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Ron Greene is heading north for another special night at the Beer Hall. Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a professional musician and solo artist, spending the last decade performing throughout the Northwest and West Coast.

Admission: Free to those 21 and over.

Brian Jacobs

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5-8 p.m.

Brian is back for a night of delightful music.

Admission: Free and open to the public.

’80s Party with Cubick’s Rube

Venue: 219 Lounge, 219 First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Cubick’s Rube from 9-11 p.m.; DJ Josh from 11-1:30 a.m.

Bust out the shoulder pads, big earrings, scrunchies, dookie chains, velour, ripped jeans and Ray-Bans. Prizes to the best dressed 80’s couple and best ’80s dressed male and female. Cubik’s Rube is the Northwest’s premier ’80s MTV Tribute Band. Through state-of-the-art technology and talented multi-instrumentalists, Cubik’s Rube provides a unique interactive audio-visual experience by combining great ’80s artists original MTV video on a huge screen along with the on-stage performers playing live music.

Bright Moments Jazz

The Riff Hangers

Saturday, Feb. 10

The Midnight Goats: Improvised Comedy

Venue: Panida Little Theater, 304 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 7:30 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.

They’ve been to Bumbershoot and seen at the Seattle Festival of Improvised Theater. Come join in the laughs as Michael Glatzmaier and David Honeycutt perform at the Little Theater.

Devon Wade

Enjoy Top 40 country rock with one of Idaho’s top country rock stars, Sandpoint’s very own Devon Wade. Bring your dancing shoes and kick up your heels as Devon rocks the Niner.

The Groove Black

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.

The Groove Black with longtime Sandpoint local Brandon Watterson on guitar and lead vocals and Jason Stoddard on base and accompanying vocals. They play an eclectic mix of jazz, funk, blues, reggae and alt rock.

Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Truck Mills

Venue: Idaho Pour Authority, 203 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Oak Street Connection

Sunday, Feb. 11

Montreal Guitare Trio

Venue: The Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

The virtuosic classical guitar trio of Marc Morin, Glenn Levésque, and Sébastien Dufour pay tribute to the great composers of Spanish music, including Paco de Lucia and Manuel de Falla, in their ‘Danzas’ concert. The concert is part of the Pend Oreille Arts Council’s Performance Series.

Truck Mills Blues Jam

West African Traditions Drum Class

Venue: Embody Studio, 823 Main St., in Sandpoint.

This group explores the rich tradition of West African drumming styles under the expert leadership of Ali Thomas.

Leon Atkinson: ‘Guitar, Chocolate and a Rose’

Looking for a great start to a romantic evening? The Panida will be the place to cap it off. Leon started the Classical Guitar Guild. He has performed with the Spokane Symphony, started guitar departments at Whitworth College, Spokane Falls Community College and North Idaho College and presently heads the guitar department at Gonzaga University. Leon travels the world doing concerts and master classes and the light and his love for guitar, stills shines bright.

MickDuff’s is ready to play matchmaker! Valentine’s Day can be fun if you’re single and to prove it, they’re hosting a singles speed dating event at the Beer Hall. Their goal is for the dating portion to take about an hour, because, what’s an hour? $1 off pints for participants.
