Spirit Lake Police announce emphasis

Print Article

In order to ensure everyone is able to enjoy their summer in Spirit Lake to the fullest, Spirit Lake Police announced on their Facebook page that they would be emphasizing a “zero tolerance” philosophy on a number of problematic issues.

Those issues — which include alcohol in city parks, offensive behavior and language, vandalism and littering, and illegal parking — prompted the emphasis by the department, SLPD advised.

• Alcohol use in city parks —City ordinance prohibits all alcohol possession or consumption in city parks. Violators will be cited.

• Offensive behavior and language — Any behavior constituting a public nuisance or disturbing the peace of others will not be tolerated. Violators may be cited and/or trespassed from all city parks for the remainder of summer.

• Vandalism and littering — Any person found to be vandalizing public property, or any person found to be littering on city property will be immediately cited. Offenders charged with vandalism or malicious injury to property will also be liable for restitution to the city for damages. Please remember all city parks have 24-hour video surveillance.

• Illegal parking — All vehicles illegally parked on bike or walking paths (especially on Spirit Lake Road near the boat launch) will be immediately ticketed.

If anyone observes any violations, they are asked to contact SLPD at 208-623-2701.
