Community invited to Peace Day event

| September 20, 2020 1:00 AM

The community is invited to a self-guided personal observance of a Day of Peace on this Monday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Every year on Sept. 21, the International Day of Peace is observed globally. Come to the Community Peace Garden at the First Presbyterian Church of Sandpoint for outdoor sanctuary in the center of Sandpoint. Enjoy the six-sided cedar Peace Pole which features the brief prayer, “May Peace Prevail on Earth” written in 12 different languages: English, Hebrew, Arabic, Salish, German, Hawaiian, Hindi, Tibetan, Swahili, Spanish, Chinese, and French. These languages were chosen as they represent geographic regions and major religious and cultural groups of the world.

Write your own prayers or peace statements on ribbons and attach them to the ribbon hanger provided in the gazebo. Join the world on a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace.

"There is no better time than now to contemplate peace in our lives and hearts," church officials said in a press release.

The church and Community Peace Garden is located on the corner of Fourth Ave and Alder St. Contact the church for more information at www.fpcsandpoint.org or 208-263-2047 or visit on Facebook at First Presbyterian Church of Sandpoint ID.
