Donald Lee “Donnie” Ziegler, 75, of Twin Lakes passed away March 6, 2012, at Kootenai Medical Center after a long fight with Parkinson’s.

He was born on Jan. 12, 1937, in St. Joseph, Mo. Don was the son of Fritz and Ella Jane (Harris) Ziegler.

Imme-diately out of high school, Don joined the Air Force. He married Carol Louise Copeland on June 21, 1964, and they have celebrated 46 years of marriage. Donald has moved many times, but has primarily lived in St. Joseph, Mo.; Los Angeles, Calif.; and Tri-Cities, Auburn and Spokane, Wash. He lived the last 35 years in Kootenai County, Idaho.

Donald worked a variety of jobs. Each one only lasted until something more interesting came along, then he landed at Kaiser Trentwood. For 31 years, this was his life and much more than just a job. He was given his nickname “Ziggy” here, and it stuck.

Don was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Rathdrum, for 23 years, and has been a member of First Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake for the last nine years.

Don’s hobbies always revolved around his ability to drive whatever recent car purchase had been made. He loved to travel wherever his heart desired. He loved to visit people, watch movies, play cards, and see the world.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Michael Phillips; his son and daughter-in-law, Marlin and Lynn Ziegler; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Katheryn Phillips; his brothers, Jimmy Dale and Lea; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mary Rhoades, Ruth McMackin, Esther McCauley and Pearl Frost; and three brothers, Earl, Bus and Junior Ziegler.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday March 12, at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N Fourth St., in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N Government Way, in Spokane.
