Senior offensive lineman William Gonser, right, hand fights as the Bulldog football team took part in two-a-day practices this week. Sandpoint head coach George Yarno is a former college offensive lineman at Nevada and Idaho State, and realizes the value of winning the battle in the trenches and how often it dictates the outcome of a game. Offensive line can be a thankless job, as players often only get noticed when they make a mistake, but it’s an extremely important job. Former NFL offensive lineman and head coach Mike Tice knows full well the value of a great offensive line, as shown by one of his more insightful quotes. “If you look at the offense like a fancy car, the offensive line is the engine. Even though we might have nice spinners and nice rims and tinted windows and some neat paint job, it doesn’t mean crap without the engine,” said Tice. “If the engine’s not working, the car might look like a pretty nice car, but it’s a piece of crap.” (Photo by ERIC PLUMMER)
