Bulldogs run past Jaguars at Jamboree

(Photo by ERIC PLUMMER) Sandpoint players Calli Laybourne (No. 22) and Ciera Bailey battle for a rebound as the Bulldog girls beat Genesis Prep 32-28 in a half of basketball on Tuesday night in a three-team Jamboree at Les Rogers Court. The Bulldogs then beat Priest River, as all three teams got two halves of basketball in before their season opener. Bella Murekatete, far left, helped bring the Jaguars within one late, before Maddie Morgan capped a strong scoring half with a late bucket. Other than facing the 6-foot-4 Murekatete, who was a handful to stop down low and showed unusual skill with some Euro-steps to the hoop, the Bulldogs’ defense flashed a ton of quickness and created a lot of turnovers. Sandpoint opens the season on Saturday when Lake City comes to town. See the Bee later this week for a season preview.
