(Courtesy photo) The Bulldog wrestling team went 2-2 in duals on Friday, then did well enough in Saturday’s tournament to finish 14th among 32 teams at the Best of the West Wrestling Tournament at Pasco High School last weekend. Junior Casey Olesen (113 pounds) pinned all his opponents en route to the finals, where he lost 5-3 to Flathead, while Hyrum Hunsaker finished third at 170 pounds, the lone two Bulldogs to nab a podium spot. “The first day was a great experience for our new and experienced wrestlers. I felt with each dual we wrestled, the better we got. Hyrum showed he has what it takes after placing at his second tourney of the year,” said Bulldog head coach Jake Stark. “After a grueling first day that beats you up physically, you have to step it up the second day and wrestle sore and tired and still keep your head in it and I thought Hyrum did both. All Casey’s hard work in the off-season is starting to pay off. I am proud of both guys, they earned it.” The Bulldogs make their home debut on Friday when 5A Coeur d’Alene comes to Sandpoint. The JV starts things off 4 p.m., followed by the varsity at 5 p.m.
