Witthaus shines at Hershey’s state meet

RATHDRUM — A host of Sandpoint area runners won events recently at the Hershey’s State Track Meet at Lakeland High School.

Tyren Witthaus won the 100, 200 and standing long jump in the boys 13-14 year-old division, while Abigail Hendricks doubled up to win the 100 and 200 in the 11-12 year-old girls division. A host of other area athletes won events and notched top five finishes.

The meet drew runners from as far away as Moscow and Kellogg, and the winning marks will be compared with other Idaho state meets to see who might qualify for the National meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

LOCAL RESULTS

• 9-10 year-old boys

Joshua Cargill, 4th in 50 dash.

Spencer Clark, 3rd in the 400.

Ethan Butler, 1st in the softball throw.

• 9-10 year-old girls

Lilly Gammon, 1st in the 50 dash, 2nd in the 200, 3rd in the standing long jump.

Hattie Larson, 1st in the 100 dash, 1st in the softball throw.

• 11-12 year-old boys

Robert Tope 1st in the standing long jump.

Carson Lewis, 1st in the 100, 1st in the 200.

Will Woodend, 2nd in the 100.

Richard Ruppert, 3rd in the 400.

Matthew Cometto, 4th in the softball throw.

• 11-12 year-old girls

Abigail Hendricks, 1st in the 200, 1st in the 100.

Jenny Slavek, 1st in the softball throw, 1st in the standing long jump, and 4th in the 100.

Haley Gammon, 3rd in the softball throw.

• 13-14 year-old boys

Tyren Witthaus, 1st in the 100, 1st in the 200, 1st in the standing long jump.

Jacob Cometto, 1st in the softball throw, 2nd in the 100, 2nd in the 800.

Andrew Pogue, 1st in the standing long jump.
