Library’s Live & Learn programs set

With the remodel of the Blanchard Library, program organizers will take advantage of the additional space and the new meeting room to bring more programs and the annual summer reading program to Blanchard.

On Saturday, May 19, holistic practitioner Meagan Mize will discuss kombucha, an ancient fermented tea that is purported to have multiple health benefits. This Live & Learn program will begin at 11 a.m.

Participants will learn about fermenting kombucha SCOBYs (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast), and how to produce a pleasant fizzy, flavored drink with a second ferment. A free SCOBY will be available for attendees who register before the class.

A second Live & Learn is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. Join Randy Haa of Whimsical Glass and create a unique fused glass suncatcher. Randy will guide students through the process, fire the pieces in her kiln and return them to the library for pickup. There is a $5 materials charge for this class and registration is required.

To reserve a space call the Blanchard branch at 208-437-0801 or the Priest River Branch at 208-448-2207, or email library@westbonnerlibrary.org.

The Blanchard Library will rock out as summer reading returns for three days in June. This year’s theme is “Libraries Rock!” and organizers promise lots of fun stories and activities for kids grades K-6. The programs will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, Wednesday, June 20 and Thursday, June 21 at 10:30 a.m. Online registration is available at westbonner.lili.org/summer-reading.

The library will also host Lego Tuesdays in the meeting room. Kids of all ages can get creative with Legos every Tuesday afternoon beginning June 5 at 3 p.m. Snacks will be provided.

The meeting room at the Blanchard Library is now available for use by community groups and nonprofit organizations. The room can be reserved during library hours when there are no programs scheduled. If there is enough interest the Blanchard BookTalk, a monthly book discussion group will be revived and will meet in the new room. To reserve the room or to sign up for BookTalk, contact the Blanchard Library.
