North Idaho Federated Republican Women officials present essay awards to students at Forrest M. Bird Charter School recently. The local NIFRW chapter sponsored the contest in March, asking students to write essays on “What’s Right About America.” The contest was open to all students, grades 8-12, with three winners being selected. The essays were collected mid-April and judged by a panel of NIFRW members and associates and the winners were announced at the chapter’s May 9 meeting. The winners, all ninth graders, were Cheyenne Bonser, first place, $100: Elijah Best, second place, $75; and Josiah Owens, third place, $50. Pictured are Bonser, Best, NIFRW officials MaryJo Ambrosiani, former state Rep. George Eskridge, Marcella Nelson, and Jerri and Bill Stevens. Owens, who recently moved to Spirit Lake, is not pictured. (Photo by CAROLINE LOBSINGER)
