ATHOL — Two people were injured in a head-on collision on Highway 54 on Thursday morning, according to Idaho State Police.

State police said 2002 Honda Civic driven by Michael A. Allen pulled into the westbound lane of the highway from a private driveway. Another Honda Civic driven by a 16-year-old was also westbound and swerved to avoid hitting Allen’s Civic. The Civic driven by the juvenile collided head-on with an eastbound Dodge Ram pickup driven by Jonathan M. James, 32, of Spirit Lake.

The 16-year-old and James were taken by ambulance to Kootenai Health.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. two miles east of Athol. The highway was blocked for approximately two and a half hours.

The crash remains under investigation, ISP said in a news release.
