SANDPOINT — It was a busy day at the scales Saturday as the Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club Thanksgiving Derby enters its final day.
John Ross of Hope and Jan Deife of Ritzville, Wash., caught their way onto the leaderboard in the adult rainbow division with Ross landing a 23.02-pound, 35-inch rainbow to claim second place in the division and Deife landing a 20.76-pound, 34-inch rainbow to claim third place. Leading the division is Denton McGlothlin of Sagle with a 23.68-pound, 36 1/2-inch beauty. In fourth is Mike Blackstone of Sagle with a 20.16-pound, 35 1/2-inch rainbow.
In the Mackinaw division, Roger Blackstone of Coeur d’Alene caught a 12.6-pound, 32-inch fish to claim second place in the division.
Becky Sturgis of Coeur d’Alene continues to hold the top spot in the adult Mackinaw division with the 17.58-pound Mackinaw measuring 37 inches that she caught on opening day.
In third is Coeur d’Alene’s Don Houk, who caught an 11.22-pound, 29-inch Mack on Monday, followed by Leo Wolf in fourth with a 6.84-, 27 3/4-inch Mack, Art Webb with a 6.36-pound, 25 1/2 inch Mack in fifth, Brad Sturgis with a 5.02-pound, 24 3/4-inch Mack for sixth, Dale Greene with a 4.66-pound, 25-inch fish in seventh, and Kenny Breeden with a 3.33-pound, 21-inch Mack in eighth.
Ninth in the division is Matt Melton with a 3.18-pound, 21 1/4-inch Mackinaw, followed by Tom Joyner in tenth with a 2.72-pound, 20-inch fish.
While there are no entries yet in the Youth A division, in the Youth B division, Lauren Porter continues to hold the lead in the category with an 18.18-pound, 32-inch rainbow. In second place is Madison Shaw Clary, who caught a 13.9-pound, 28 3/4-inch rainbow. Claiming third spot on the list is Savannha Landingham, who caught a 6.30-pound, 23-inch rainbow on Sunday.
There are also no entries yet in the junior rainbow and junior Mackinaw divisions.
Over $10,000 in cash and prize money are up for grabs during the derby, which continues until 4 p.m. today, Dec. 1.
First place in the adult rainbow trout division is worth $2,000, while the awards for second, third and fourth places are $1,000, $750 and $500, respectively.
There is also a $2,000 members’ bonus split for club members who place in the adult rainbow division. Those who purchase a 2019 pin stand to win $250 if they catch the largest rainbow trout.
The top adult finisher in the lake trout division stands to win $1,000. Second-, third- and fourth-place finishers win $500, $300 and $200, respectively. Adults who finish in fifth to 10th place in the lake trout division win $100.
There is also a daily, $150 Mack of the Day award and a $100 prize for the best photo from this year’s event.
