SANDPOINT — The man who held the Sagle Conoco at bay with a disposable camera last October is accusing Bonner County sheriff's deputies of physically abusing and depriving him of food and medical attention in connection with a May 13 arrest for burglary.

Trever Rogers, 30, has filed a tort claim against the county asking for $400,000 for medical expenses, pain and suffering and more.

Rogers claims the deputies assaulted him during the arrest and deprived him of food from May 13-15. He says he was denied medical care from May 13-16.

He alleges deputies struck him in the back of the head, handcuffed him "unreasonable tightly" forced their knees into his back and ribs. Rogers also claims the deputies are guilty of "forcible ramming his body into the side of their patrol unit" when he was handcuffed and unarmed.

"Injuries include, but are not limited to, bruising, swelling, knee injury, shoulder fracture and/or aggravation of previously asymptotic injuries," the tort claim states.

Rogers is now in jail awaiting an Aug. 23 plea hearing on the burglary charge.

The standoff resulted in two aggravated assault charges.

Records indicate Rogers was released from prison in Orofino in June last year, and was arrested and charged in 1998 with burglary, but the charges were dropped. He was arrested again in 2000 for taking someone's vehicle without permission. Last year, he was also arrested for unlawful entry, disturbing the peace and for assault.
