Yvonne Marie O'Donnell, 90

Yvonne Marie O'Donnell, 90, passed away, Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Funeral Mass will be said at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sandpoint with the Rev. Dennis C. Day officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. prior to service time Saturday at the Lakeview Funeral Home. Yvonne will be buried next to her husband John at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane, Wash., on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at 11 a.m.

Yvonne was born April 19, 1914, in Edmonton, Alberta, to Joseph and Virginia Tardif. She grew up and attended schools in Ballard, Wash. After graduation from Holy Angels Academy she attended Seattle College. Yvonne worked for the Ford Modeling Agency in Seattle, and later opened a seamstress shop.

Yvonne married John O'Donnell on Valentine's Day Feb. 14, 1942, in Seattle. John served in the Navy during World War II, and Yvonne would travel to the different Navy ports to see him. After the war, the couple moved to Afognak Island near Kodiak, Alaska, where they opened and operated a salmon fishing and cannery business.

In 1957, the family moved from Alaska, and followed John's work around the Pacific Northwest. They retired to Spokane in 1976. John passed away in 1991. In March 2002, Yvonne moved to Sandpoint to be closer to her family.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed people, traveling, reading, sewing, arranging flowers, and working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mary (Del) Goff of Sandpoint and Alice (Dale) Holt of Sandpoint; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eugene Tardif of Ballard, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John; two sisters, Lillian Christenson and Marilyn Backstrom; and a brother, Earnest Tardif.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Prune Belly Support Network (PBSN), P O Box 154, Beloit, WI 53512-0154, in honor of Yvonne's great grandson.
