Several state berths up for grab

The postseason road to state begins today for a handful of local teams.

4A Region 1 softball: The title will be decided today at Post Falls High. No. 1 seed Post Falls (14-10) plays No. 4 Sandpoint (2-21), and No. 2 Lakeland (10-11) faces No. 3 Moscow (7-14) at 2 p.m. The winners play at 4 for the regional title and a trip to state May 19-21 at Post Falls High. The runner-up can also advance to state by winning a play-in game Saturday at Fruitland.

4A Region 1 golf: Sandpoint, Moscow, Post Falls and Lakeland compete in the four-team event today at Prairie Falls Golf Club in Post Falls, starting at 10 a.m. The top two teams and top four individuals qualify for state next Monday and Tuesday at the Rupert Country Club. Other teams can qualify by shooting 315 (boys) or 405 (girls).

1A District 1-2 golf: Clark Fork competes at the Shoshone Golf Course in Big Creek today at 10 a.m. State is next Monday and Tuesday at Burley Municipal Golf Course.

3A District 1 baseball: The tourney begins today with a loser-out game between No. 4 Bonners Ferry (8-13) and No. 5 Kellogg (4-13). The tourney continues Thursday at Timberlake, with No. 2 St. Maries (11-8) playing No. 3 Timberlake (6-14) at 2 p.m., and No. 1 Priest River (18-3) playing the Bonners-Kellogg winner at 4. The championship game is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Post Falls High. The top two teams advance to state May 19-21 at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Ore.

4A Region 1 track: The meets unfold Thursday and Friday at Vollmer Bowl in Lewiston. The top two individuals and winning relays qualify for state. At-large berths are also up for grabs in both divisions. State is May 19-20 at Boise State.

3A District 1 softball: Friday at Timberlake, No. 4 seed Bonners Ferry (2-12) plays No. 4 Kellogg (5-16) at noon in a loser-out game. No. 2 St. Maries (19-3) plays No. 3 Priest River (8-15) at 2 p.m., and No. 1 Timberlake (20-3) faces the Bonners-Kellogg winner at 4. Saturday's championship game is at noon, and the second-place game is at 2 p.m. Two teams advance to state May 19-21 at Buhl.

3A District 1 track: The meet begins Friday and concludes Saturday at Timberlake. The top three individuals and winning relays advance to state May 19-21 at Boise State.

1A Region 1 track: Clark Fork will compete in the meet that begins Friday and concludes Saturday at Kootenai, which is playing host to the meet for the first time. The top four individuals and top two relays advance to state May 19-21 at Boise State.

4A Region 1 tennis: The event is Friday and Saturday in Sandpoint. The top two finishers move on to state May 20-21 at Caldwell.

4A Region 1 baseball: No. 2 seed Post Falls (13-10) played host to No. 3 Lakeland (6-15), and No. 1 Moscow (10-13) was home against No. 4 Sandpoint (8-14) in semifinal games Monday. Post Falls defeated the Hawks 12-7. However, the Sandpoint and Moscow game was rained out and is rescheduled for today.

The championship and loser-out games are Wednesday, with the second-place game Thursday for a shot at a state play-in game on Saturday.

The state tournament is May 19-21 at Bishop Kelly High in Boise.
