Clark Fork angler nets top Mackinaw

SANDPOINT — A Post Falls angler has hooked the top prize in the annual Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club Thanksgiving Derby.

Roy Stokes held on to the lead over the final weekend and claimed the derby's top rainbow prize with a 20-pound, 10-ounce trout that measured 36 inches. Finishing in second place was William Ingmire of Sandpoint, who'd caught a 20-pound, 6-ounce rainbow that measured 35 inches on the second day of the derby.

Making her way on to the leader board in third place was Antoinette Letteri of Sandpoint.

David Lell of Clark Fork finished fourth with a 17-pound, 13-ounce rainbow and Athol angler John Janke, who had claimed the early lead on the derby's opening day, finished in fifth.

Jordan Kimm of Clark Fork took top honors in the Mackinaw division with an 18-pound, 7-ounce lake trout measuring 35 inches. Jim Carothers of Sagle edged his way into second place in the standings with an 18-pound, 4-ounce Mackinaw measuring 36 1/4 inches long that he caught on the shelf with a plug.

Sandpoint fisherman John Cosolito finished in third with a 17-pound, 10-ounce trout that he caught on opening day near the islands off Hope. Jerry DePue of Naples finished fourth, followed by Scott Plue of Sandpoint, who hooked a 16-pound, 13-ounce Mackinaw that measured 36 inches, over the final weekend.

In the youth division A, Gunner Harvey, 9, of Sandpoint took the top prize with a 14-pound, 3-ounce Mackinaw measuring 33 inches that was caught off the islands earlier in the derby.

Chrsty Wendle, 11, of Hauser finished second and Levi Shaffler of Dalton Gardens finished in third place.

In the youth division B, Cavlin Crossley, 7, of Spokane took top honors with a 4-pound, 14-ounce mackinaw measuring 24 inches. Dylan Shaffler, 7, of Dalton Gardens finished in second and Shawn Brothers of Carlsbad, N.M., finished in third.

With more than 540 pounds worth of Mackinaw, Buster Bandy of Sagle claimed top honors in the aggregate category. Randy Meches and Jim Carothers, both of Sagle, finished second and third respectively.
