Support our children and vote yes on levy

| August 21, 2006 9:00 PM

The school plant facility levy coming up on Sept. 5 needs the support of all of us who care about our schools. While I wish we were talking about building a new high school or middle school, apparently the community wasn't ready for the price tag. Instead, LPOSD will finish Kootenai Elementary school.

After listening to the district's reasons for this approach, I agree. Kootenai school was never completed and now six classes are conducted in "temporary" buildings that have no bathrooms or running water. Several new subdivisions are under way nearby. These aren't fancy places for the wealthy retired people, but nice homes that families with kids will be able to buy.

The plans for Kootenai will accommodate this growth and also ease crowding in other elementary schools, especially Farmin Stidwell and Washington. I think that makes a lot of sense.

Please vote yes on Sept. 5.
