Sandpoint girls, Clark Fork boys fall

CLARK FORK — Mullan's Joe Ploharz had his best game of the season scoring 20 points as the Tigers shut down Clark Fork 43-31 in North Star League action Tuesday night.

Brian Young led the Wampus Cats (4-7, 3-3) with eight points and his stout defense held Jesse James, Mullan's leading scorer, to only six points. The Cats could never get going offensively as they were held to only 12 first half points.

"Offensively we didn't get much done," said Cats' coach Brian Powell. "We didn't finish, didn't come ready to play, and 12 points in a half won't win many ball games."

The Cats succeeded in stopping Mullan's two best players in James and Corey Pehan, but Ploharz caught them by surprise with his scoring outburst, more than making up for the fact that only four Mullan (7-3, 3-1) players scored.

"Cameron Jeffres and Young were great on defense; kudos to them for shutting down their two best scorers," said Powell. "Ploharz hadn't done much against us before. The four kids that scored played pretty solid."

Clark Fork hosts Timberlake tonight at 7:30 p.m.
