Sandpoint does well as districts

LEWISTON — Senior Katie Adams qualified for state with an impressive win in the 110-meter high hurdles and a third place finish in the 300-meter hurdles as the 4A District 1-2 Regional track meet concluded Friday afternoon in Lewiston.

Courtney Adams won the 200-meters and teammate Desirae Hutchings finished third as they both qualified for state.

Megan Bartlett finished third in the 1,600-meters and fellow distance runner Christina Miller was third in the 800-meters to secure a spot at state.

Freshman Joshua Kopsa provided the biggest story of the day for the Bulldog boys, finishing third in the 200-meters and joining Charlie Hirning and Sheldon Cramer as the only boys to qualify.

"Josh was a surprise; he's excited," said coach Dave DeMers. "To take a freshman to state in sprints is exciting."

All told DeMers will take nine athletes to state next week. Katie Adams, Charlie Hirning, Sheldon Cramer, Brooke DeMers and Megan Bartlett all qualified in two events.

The top three placers and winning relays advance to state next Thursday and Friday at Boise State University. At-large berths will also be awarded in 5A.
