SHS lands dozen on All-IEL squads

| October 23, 2006 9:00 PM

Indicative of the high quality of soccer played in Sandpoint, the boys and girls All-League soccer teams announced monday were littered with Bulldogs.

Becca Stone was co-offensive player of the year despite leading the league in goals scored. Brittany Oakley was named to the first team, and Brittany Clawson and Sadey Vogel were second team selections off the girls' team.

The state champion Bulldogs put a whopping eight players on the IEL boys' team. Freshman Daniel Anderson was named newcomer of the year. Kyle Meaux, Alex Crossingham and Gunnar Paulsen were first team selections, and true to form, all three were spectacular at the state tournament. Sophomores Tanner French and Spencer Swerin were second team selections, and seniors R.J. Dixon and Drake Hanson were honorable mention, no doubt a byproduct of missing some games with injuries.

Of the 12 players garnering IEL honors, seven of them were underclassmen, a fact that should ensure future state championships for the Bulldogs.
