Poor planning has plagued lake for years

| May 21, 2007 9:00 PM

One pet peeve I have had for years is not near enough public access to the lake. City Beach gets louder and more polluted and crowded by the year. Once the bypass goes by all that exhaust will settle into the sand for our kids to play in.

Personally I just like to quietly swim and soak up warmth, get away from the crowds, hustle and bustle. Everywhere I have escaped to for my moments of getaway from days gone by have and are being developed and is gone to the public forever. Now I either have to drive 30 or 40 miles to another quiet spot with not enough parking or buy a boat to have access to peace and quiet and water.

It's a shame we live on one of the largest lakes west of the Mississippi and have so limited access. To have access we need a boat or money for our own private beach. To have a boat we need money and money for gas (notice the fuel slicks along City Beach children are swimming in already). This does not even mention the fact that more boats in our lovely lake will continue to compound the milfoil problem. We can keep spraying it with the "safe chemicals" but what is the point when we have more boats to spread it year after year.

It was told to me by Mr. Gissel that the Corps of Engineers voted to privatize the lake way back in the '50s … Sad, so sad. So much poor planning through out the years that has and will continue to affect the years to come.
