Gardeners help local food bank

| December 1, 2008 8:00 PM

Thank you, Bonner County citizens. During the growing season this year, you donated over five tons of home grown produce to area food banks and other charities. The Bonner Community Food Bank alone received 9890 pounds of fruits and vegetables produced by local gardeners. Every bit of this food was distributed to local residents.

A special thanks goes out to Sheriff Elaine Savage and the Bonner County Jail, whose inmates grew and donated literally tons of vegetables to county food banks, Kinderhaven, the Union Gospel Mission, and other area charities. I do hope that this project will continue with the new sheriff.

While planning your 2009 garden, please add just a row in the garden for the purpose of donating to those who can't afford fresh produce. It's a wonderful way to help local folks eat nutritiously.  Times are tough, and this is an easy way to give to those who can't have their own gardens.

Again, thank you all for your generosity.
