Pepperdine leads Bulldogs in dual wins over Timberlake, Newport

RATHDRUM — Timmy Pepperdine moved up two weight classes and posted two hard-fought wins to lead Sandpoint to dual wins over Timberlake and Newport Tuesday night at Timberlake High School.

Pepperdine, the reigning 103 pound state champion, was down 15-11 when he pinned his Newport opponent to post his second solid win of the night at 125 pounds..

"He got better today," said Sandpoint coach Kirk Hartzell of Pepperdine. "It's good to see him struggle. He was uncomfortable and we have to push him to get good matches."

Terry Taylor posted a clutch win in the final match against Timberlake, with the teams tied at 36-36 going into the 215 pound final.

"I love watching heavyweights develop," said Hartzell of Taylor, who continues to improve. "He's starting to figure it out and do things right."

Pat Charland posted his first varsity win at 145 pounds against Newport, and Chris Book won both of his exhibition matches to highlight a solid night on the mat for the Bulldogs.

Sandpoint wrestles against Nampa at Post Falls on Thursday.
