Amnesty doesn't belong in Iraq war funding

| June 1, 2008 9:00 PM

Our esteemed Sen. Larry Craig, who has brought such honor and respect to his position by his conduct, is at it again. This time he is working with Sen. Dianne Feinstein to slip illegal alien amnesty into the Iraq supplemental war spending bill.

Larry Craig thinks rewarding people who have violated our boarder and immigration laws, who have committed identity theft and tax fraud, is just as important as funding our troops at war, and worked with one of the most liberal senators to sneak that reward into Iraq War funding.

We are currently entering or are close to a recession, with jobs being shed left and right. Do we really want to reward both the illegals and the farmers who employ them, and further depress the pay for those legal citizens who would do those jobs if paid what wages would be if not for illegal workers?

Please note that if farmers can’t find workers, they can hire as many foreign workers as needed legally through the H-2A temporary worker program. But that program requires that they pay decently (the farmers must follow minimum wage laws and not break them), and must ensure the workers go home.

Apparently, following the law is just too much for farmers and for Sens. Craig and Feinstein. And getting amnesty passed in the standard manner seems to be too much for them. Instead, they hope to sneakily blackmail senators into voting for it so that our troops get the funding they need.

Please contact Larry Craig’s office in Coeur d’Alene at (208) 667-6130 and tell him what you think of him attaching amnesty for illegal aliens to the funding of our troops at war. And call Sen. Mike Crapo at (208) 664-5490 and ask him to vote to strip Craig’s amendment from the bill.
