Sue Nelson

| June 10, 2008 9:00 PM

On April 15, 2008, at 6:14 am, the spirit of Sue Nelson released her tired broken body and went to join her mother, brother, and grandparents.

An informal memorial celebration will be held at the home of her brother and sister-in-law on Saturday, June 21, at 1 p.m., at 4002 East 20th in Spokane. Friends and family are invited to come, share memories of Sue, and see what wonderful children she mothered, and her special, special grandchildren.

Sue's journey on earth began only 56 years earlier, on April 4, 1952, in Sandpoint, Idaho, when she was born to Don and Ruby Lund. Her childhood was spent in Samuels, and she graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1970. After high school she moved to Spokane, attended cosmetology school, and met Paul Nelson. They were married in 1972 and raised their three children in the Spokane area.

Sue's creative spirit was always looking for a new challenge. She had a new idea every minute - a new recipe, a different way to arrange the furniture, another alteration of a favorite sewing pattern. She created wonderful birthday cakes and costumes for her children, and everyone loved her cooking and wanted her recipes.

A second career as a designer followed her graduation from ITT Tech in Computer-Aided Drafting and she assisted in the remodel of many kitchens and bathrooms in the Spokane area. Eventually, she spent several years in southern California to be near her son Jon and his family; but her children brought her back to Spokane Valley, after her health declined in 2007.

Her last months in Spokane were spent doing what she was so good at, caring about everyone she knew and creating beauty wherever she could.

Sue is sorely missed by her survivors: Son Jon and his wife Alana and grandchildren Stacy and Samara Nelson, of Liberty Lake; daughter, Anica Nelson, of Everett; daughter and son-in-law Tawnie and Scott Fitzgerald and grandson Nathaniel of Spokane Valley; former husband, Paul Nelson of Cheney; father, Don Lund of Sandpoint, Idaho; brother, Ted Lund and wife Philomena, of Spokane; sister, Sandra and husband Fred Ulf, of Port Angeles (formerly of Arlington); one niece, Julie Lund; five nephews, Matt, Danny, and Luke McManus, and Eric and Ryan Lund; plus numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Christian and Marie Lund and Roy and Dot Thompson, by her mother, Ruby Lund, and by a brother, Dan Lund.

A light lunch will be served. Call Tawnie at 922-3976 to let us know you are coming or leave a message at inmemoryofsuenelson@comcast.net.

We miss her so much; but we are grateful her pain in no more.
