Former councilman deserves our thanks

| June 23, 2008 9:00 PM

Councilman Steve Lockwood tendered his resignation to the Mayor this last week. Steve has been involved in the city of Sandpoint for a number of years and I would like to thank him for dedicating his time and passion to improving life in Sandpoint.

While on City Council, Steve has been an advocate not only for his own position but for healthy discussion and a diversity of views. Often he will raise views which run counter to his own for the sake of discussion. These usually start with the phrase, 'There are some ” and finish with a fact or opinion held by others. It is excellent to hear a variety of positions on important issues.

Steve has been an ardent supporter of creating a Sandpoint Comprehensive Plan, improving the walkability of Sandpoint and improving our downtown. He has worked to minimize sprawl in our region, efficiently use our resources, and provide alternative transportation methods.

I often disagree with Steve. These disagreements are based upon differing views, information and beliefs. Regardless, I enjoy his opinions and arguments. It has been a great experience to serve with him. Thanks, Steve, for your time on Sandpoint City Council.
