Pack rats may have put letters into garage wall

| November 15, 2008 8:00 PM

In your article about Mr. Lawson finding love letters written by a World War II soldier inside his garage wall, you questioned how they got there. I may be able to give a clue.

On a trip to Charleston, S.C., I toured one of the old plantations and ended up joining the National Historic Trust. In one of the newsletters they talked about finding letters in the plantation house walls that led to added information on the history of the plantation. The letters were put into the walls by pack rats. This is probably how the letters got into Mr. Lawson's garage wall as well.
