Hawkins, Hubbard nab wins at Tri Meet

SANDPOINT — Brandon Hawkins (800) and Mike Hubbard (high jump) each posted wins to lead the Sandpoint track team at the home Tri Meet against Post Falls and Lake City Thursday afternoon at Sandpoint High School.

Hubbard hit a season high by clearing 6-2 for the high jump win, and Hawkins edged teammate Danny Pfeifer at the tape in a tightly-contest 800 meters, as both runners established personal bests at 2:04.

“Brandon’s goal all year has been two minutes,” said distance coach Matt Brass, who believes he has a chance. “It will be a battle.”

Sean Hogan ran a strong race in the 300 hurdles, holding the lead before clipping the final hurdle and falling out of the top three.

Melinda Van Dyk grabbed seconds in the 100, 200 and 100 hurdles to lead the Sandpoint girls, who along with the boys finished third.

Sandpoint is at the Coeur d’Alene Invitational on April 24.
