Locals picked to play in state all-star game

| March 9, 2010 8:00 PM

COEUR d’ALENE — Sandpoint’s Stefan Buratto and Clark Fork’s Shaina Gustafson headline a list of local participants for the boys and girls 2010 Idaho high school all-star basketball games, announced recently by the North Idaho College athletic department.

The seventh annual event is scheduled for Saturday, March 13 at NIC’s Christianson Gym. The games pit the North (seniors from District 1 and 2) vs. the South (the rest of the state). Priest River, fresh off boys and girls state 3A titles, will send Jake Weimer to the boys team and Taylor Stewart and head coach Gary Stewart to the girls team.

The girls game is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by the boys game at 3:30. The event will include a 3-point shooting contest with the girls competing against the boys and a slam-dunk contest between the games. Last year the North won both games.

Players were chosen by a selection committee of sports writers and broadcasters from throughout the state. The committee selected 12 players, an alternate and coach for the four teams.

Admission to the game is $6 for adults, $4 for students and senior citizens and will be available at the door, sponsor locations and local area high schools.
