Pagano sisters, Engel lead Bulldogs past Vikings, 3-2

COEUR d’ALENE — Nichole Pagano scored twice, and Ellie Engel added a goal and an assist to lead Sandpoint to a 3-2 win over Coeur d’Alene in nonleague girls soccer Wednesday afternoon at Coeur d’Alene High School.

Meghan Pagano added two assists, giving her a team-high six on the season, teaming with her older sister and Engel to give the Bulldogs (3-6-4) a formidable attack. Hannah Griesemer was solid in goal, registering 11 saves and earning her coach’s respect.

“Hannah played really well in goal,” said Pitre of the lengthy sophomore keeper. “The Pagano sisters played well together the entire game.”

The Vikings (5-4-1), who beat the Bulldogs 2-1 in an earlier meeting, scored an equalizer in the 71st minute to tie the game at 2-2, before Engel netted the game winner two minutes later.

Sandpoint is at Lake City on Saturday.
