Waterkeeper proves its views are extreme

| December 6, 2012 6:00 AM

We’ve been hearing a lot lately from Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper about how bad coal trains are for us, although everyone seemed to be fine with them before the Gateway Pacific Terminal in Washington was going to be built. Waterkeeper would like to have a special place in hell reserved for it and the trains going to it.

So in the Dec. 2 Bee we learned that Waterkeeper was taking part a hearing in Spokane Valley on Dec. 4 to “provide an official public opportunity to oppose the export facility.” Note the wording: not to give input on the export facility, but to oppose it. Dissenting opinions not welcome.

Also, RSVPs were asked for prior to attendance. When was the last time you attended a public hearing and had to submit an RSVP?

But it gets better. “Opponents of the proposal are encouraged to wear red and arrive at the hearing at 3 p.m. for a scheduled press conference.” When was the last time you attended a public hearing and were told what color to wear? I know that Nazis liked brown shirts for their sympathizers, but that’s such an unflattering color, so the Waterkeeper are going with red. And if you’re not wearing red, they know who to work on, ignore, or sideline.

And to start it all off on the right foot, a press conference. Can you say “indoctrination session?”

Thanks, Waterkeeper, for clarifying for us how environmental Nazis operate.
