We are starting to see more and more Christmas lights popping up around the county.

As is the tradition, we are collecting addresses and descriptions of homes and businesses that are decorated up.

During the week between Christmas and New Year's we will run a Christmas Lights tour map in the paper and on Google Maps so that readers will know where to drive to make the most of their “gotta get out of the house and quit eating” time.

Feel free to drop addresses by the Bee at 310 Church or email me at: dkeyes@bonnercountydailybee.com.

Thanks to John Hendricks and family for helping us with this collection. He and his family are out and about with their list right now.

It struck me this weekend as my son, Austin, and I were finishing off putting white lights up on the peaks of the house how ironic it is that people decide to climb shaky ladders and put lights up on houses during the most slippery and cold time of the year … I think it must be a business builder for the emergency room.

I made this comment earlier on my Facebook page and Tracey Weikel compared it to the Fourth of July when many folks mix alcohol and fireworks.

Lickitty Split, a cat that owns Bud and Joyce Smith, was catapulted to fame by being included in the 365 Kittens-A-Year calendar.

The calendar asks folks to send in photos of their favorite felines. A non-catatonic group of judges purrr-used the entries to select the top cats.

Lickitty Split has been in this calendar before. This year Lickitty Split owns Nov. 3.

From the Dispatch log:

• 11/13/12 dispatch received a report of a burglary on Whodathunkit Road in Sandpoint. A burglary is bad, living on Whodathunkit Road is priceless.

Do you know of any other unique names for streets and roads arould here? Let me know.

• 11/21/12 dispatch received a call about a report of a stolen car on Main Street. “Officer will take a stolen report, after the area is checked to make sure the owner didn’t just forget where he parked it.”

• Nov. 15, 2012, dispatch received complaint of a speeding vehicle in the 1000 block of North Ella driving by multiple times. “Late in the evening, contact was made with the driver’s parent, who said he would take care of the problem.”

A few weeks ago I asked people to share ideas on where to shop locally as well as lists of groups or organizations that could use some help this holiday season.

One business was mentioned many times and it is one of Sandpoint’s old-time businesses.

More than a dozen people cited the unique selection of “almost anything Christmas” at Sandpoint Super Drug.

Many of the downtown Sandpoint businesses were also noted.

Several people mentioned that they were going to help out the Lions Club Toys for Tots drive this year. One person mentioned to me that she used to be a recipient of the food and toys from the Lions and that the donations made sure that she and her siblings actually had a Christmas.

“Now that I am older, I really respect what the Lions are doing and I make sure that I am giving them money and toys so they can give Christmas to families just like ours,” she said.

Good Christmas joke: It was the last day of school before Christmas vacation and the students all lined up at their teacher’s desk to give her presents.

The children whose parents own the flower shop brought her a bouquet of flowers. The children whose parents own the auto supply business brought her a flashlight and so on …

As the teacher looked down the row of kids, she wondered what was in the box that the kids whose parents own the liquor store brought.

Finally Sally and Jimmy were in front of her. It was a big box and kind of heavy.

As the teacher carefully took the box from the kids she asked a few questions about the content. In fact, she noticed the box was leaking so she ran her finger through the liquid and took a taste.

“Is there wine in here?” she asked. The kids said no.

“How about rum, is this rum in here?” she asked. The kids said no again and giggled.

“OK, I give up, is it whiskey?” she asked. “Nope,” they both said in unison, “it’s a puppy!”
