SANDPOINT — Senior Maggie Kirscher and sophomore Hailey Olin carried the scoring load for Sandpoint all season, so it came as little surprise when the pair was named to the 4A All-Inland Empire League girls basketball team on Monday, as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Kirscher led the league in scoring with 15 points per game, also pulling down six rebounds per game, and made the team for the third consecutive year. Kirscher scored 15 or more points 14 times on the season, including a career-high 36 points in a win against 3A state runner up Timberlake.

Her variety of low post moves and mid-range shooting were a tough combination for opposing defenses this season.

“She has a really good feel for the game offensively by finding the open window where her teammates can get her the ball, and she knows how to finish,” says Bulldogs coach Lance Bruce. “Losing Maggie to graduation means that we have a huge scoring void to fill as well as a player that has a passion for the game of basketball.”

Olin made the team for the second straight year, averaging 11 points and six boards a game while also leading the Bulldogs in assists and steals.

She scored in double-figures in 12 games, including 15 or more points eight times.

When Kirscher missed some action with an injury, Olin stepped up her game.

Her all around game will make her a force to be reckoned with in the Inland Empire League for the next two years.

“Hailey is the ultimate competitor and whatever awards and honors she receives are earned through her relentless effort and hard work every single play of every practice and game,” says Bruce. “Hailey is a model program player, and she makes the players and coaches around her better every day.”
