CLARK FORK — The stellar efforts of two seniors were honored recently, when Clark Fork’s Joey Hazinsky and Axel Anderson were named to the 2012 All-North Star League football team, as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Anderson was a factor on both sides of the ball during a strong senior season. He finished with 13 touchdowns on the season, rushing for 198 yards and scoring three touchdowns in the first meeting against Mullan, then adding another four scores in the second matchup.

After missing his junior year with a neck injury, the running back/linebacker was a key figure in a bounce-back season for the Wampus Cats.

“Defensively he really set the tone. He can run sideline to sideline and is a real physical presence on the field,” said Cats head coach Brian Arthun. “He’s a tough kid to bring down. He ran with power. Very rarely did someone bring him down on the first hit.”

Hazinsky proved to be the lightning to Anderson’s Thunder for the Wampus Cats. His speed and quickness were weapons on the wide open eight-man fields, making an impact as a receiver, returner and defensive back.

He rushed for 275 yards and seven touchdowns in a win over Mullan in a rare start at running back, and ended the season with a 13 catch, 200-plus yard performance against Kootenai.

Arthun called Hazinsky a great leader in his only year in the program.

“He took the younger kids under his wing. He’s a hard-working kid with a great attitude,” described Arthun. “We asked him to do quite a bit, and he was a great receiver.”
