SANDPOINT — Every time Sandpoint head coach Conor Baranski asks sophomore Heidi Skinner how she feels about playing a certain position, she always answers that she’ll play anywhere, but prefers forward.

She showed why on Tuesday, scoring twice to lead Sandpoint to a 3-1 win over Newport in nonleague girls soccer at sun-soaked Centennial Field.

“I said ‘go in there and score some goals,’” explained Baranski, moving Skinner up to forward in place of the injured Sierra Scott. “They were great finishes. She was calm and composed in front of the goal, which is what you want.”

Kaylee Kiebert also scored a goal and Makayla Sundquist stopped six shots in goal for the Bulldogs (3-1-2), who are at Mt. Spokane on Thursday.

First half — 1, Spt, Kaylee Kiebert (Megan Rockwell), 5:00. 2, Spt, Heidi Skinner (Emma Weme), 36:00. 3, Skinner (Corinne Ariss), 40:00. Second half — 4, Newport, 50:00.

Shots on goal — New 6, Spt 8.

Saves — New, Katheryn Merrel, 6; Spt, Makayla Sundquist, 6.
