Basin board meets Monday

| April 20, 2013 7:00 AM

DOVER — The Pend Oreille Basin Commission will take up a range of topics when it meets on Monday at City Hall.

The meeting starts at 10 a.m.

The meeting kicks off with a presentation on the impacts Asian clams have had on Lake Tahoe. A small population of the clams were discovered in Lake Pend Oreille’s Ellisport Bay and officials here are trying to gain a better understanding of what could happen if they are not controlled.

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture will also brief the commission aquatic invasive species and treatment plans for the basin.

The Bonneville Power Administration and Idaho Department of Fish & Game will also be making giving presentations to the board.

The former agency will discuss mitigation requirements for fish and wildlife impacts of dams from which it markets power.

The latter agency will present new research that explores the decreasing periods of thermal stratification in Lake Pend Oreille. The stratification is a result of the top layer of water warming in the summer and benefits to kokanee.
