SANDPOINT — Sandpoint Police are investigating a beating in downtown early Friday morning that left a local man with a fractured skull.

The 36-year-old victim was found lying in the street and bleeding from the face in the 200 block of Main at about 1:30 a.m. He was reportedly jumped by two or three males, according to local police.

It was not immediately clear if the attack was provoked or not, said police Chief Corey Coon.

“They’re still working with family to figure out what happened,” Coon said.

The victim was taken to Bonner General Hospital for treatment.

“He’s been since diagnosed with a fractured skull,” Coon said.

The victim is a lifelong Bonner County resident with ties to the business community and no criminal history of violent offenses.

Sandpoint Police Sgt. Derrick Hagstrom said officers are in the process of obtaining footage from adjacent businesses with surveillance cameras, including the Sandpoint branch of US Bank.

No arrests have been made and there are currently no suspects.

“If anybody in the community knows the individuals involved, we would like to hear from them,” said Hagstrom.

Those with information about the attack or what precipitated it are urged to call Bonner Dispatch at 265-5525. SPD can also be contacted during regular business hours at 265-1482.
