Research issues to learn the true facts

| December 17, 2013 6:00 AM

Recently, there were a few letters to the editor expressing outrage at some relatively recent events. One, by Carol Abbott, mentioned “taking our country back” and how “they (Congress) want to pass this law and then exempt themselves from it.”

I seriously urge the readers of the Bee and consumers of any media to consult more than one source for their information and news. For one, Congress never exempted themselves from the ACA any more than anyone else.

They, like most Americans, receive health insurance through their jobs, and there is no special exemption despite what partisan “news” sources make up.

This is a completely manufactured point that has taken in an unfortunately ill-informed Ms. Abbott.

Another letter from Christie Pearson laments the fact that the recent Nobel Prize for the Higgs-Bosun discovery made no mention of “the Creator” because they called it the “God particle.” Yet another misinformed letter as the scientists responsible for this astounding discovery never referred to such a title. This title was generated by the media in order to more easily convey the significance of such an important discovery to the general public.

Unfortunately, Ms. Pearson is more interested in easy headlines rather than factual information, and has turned the topic on its head in order to support their preconceived persecution from the scientific community.

The Bee gets letters like these every week. We cannot have rational discussion when we can’t even agree on facts, or in this case, some are make them up.
