Schoening, Olin shoot Bulldogs past Tigers

| December 18, 2013 6:00 AM

SANDPOINT — Hailey Olin left her usual ink on the stat page, tallying 17 points to go with five boards and five dimes to lead the Bulldogs to a 54-46 win over Timberlake in nonleague girls basketball Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

Olin was 3-5 from beyond the arc, hitting several big shots when the Bulldogs (5-5) needed them most. Madi Schoening scored 12 points and dished out 10 assists to notch a double-double, as the pair provided a boost every time Timberlake would close the gap.

“The Schoening girl and the Olin girl had great games, we couldn’t slow them down and make someone else beat us,” said Timberlake coach Matt Miller. “I’m happy with our effort, but we didn’t execute as well as I’d like.”

Maryah Delgado was 3-6 from beyond the arc, scoring 13 points and providing a key third offensive option for the Bulldogs, who earned the season sweep with the win.

Freshman Allison Kirby had a big game in defeat for the Tigers (5-3), just missing a triple double with 10 points, 10 assists and eight boards, and Jessica Norlander made 7 of 13 shots from the field for 17 points, as the Tigers finished with 12 offensive rebounds. Freshman Keelie Lawler was a factor with nine points before leaving early in the second half with a knee injury.

“Poor rebounding was a key factor in keeping the game closer than it should have been,” said Bulldogs head coach Bill Bender. “Steady play from Hailey and Madi stopped the bleeding on several occasions, with clutch shooting from Maryah the final key to the win.”
