Travers leads Bulldog wrestlers at Tri-State
COEUR d’ALENE — Sandpoint senior Josh Travers went 4-2 to finish seventh place at 220 pounds, one of eight Bulldog wrestlers in action at Tri-State this weekend at North Idaho College.
All eight Bulldogs notched a win in a tournament that features some of the best wrestlers in the Northwest, with draws far superior to anything that will be seen at state. The Bulldogs finished 27th out of 60 teams, hailing from Idaho, Montana, Washington and Oregon.
Casey Randles won three matches at 152 pounds, in a tournament where teams usually bring only their top tier wrestlers, and wins don’t come easy.
Sandpoint returns to action at a double-dual at Flathead High School in Kalispell, Mont., on Jan. 2.
TRI-STATE RESULTS
• Scout Nash (1-2) — 106 pounds: Scout Nash won by pin over Joe Adams (Lakeside), 4:31; Ryan Starr (Timberlake) won by pin over Nash, 0:23; Tyson Hendricks (Lakeland High School) won by injury default over Nash, 1:39.
• Tanner McNelley (2-2) — 126 pounds: McNelley won by decision over Blake Hoyle (Tahoma), 7-6; Drake Foster (Post Falls) won by pin over McNelley, 2:32; McNelley won by pin over Josiah Cazier (Chiawana), 1:37; Tristan Obrian (Timberlake) won by pin over McNelley, 1:21.
• Mahonri Hunsaker (2-2) — 138 pounds: Bradley Erickson (Timberlake) won by pin over Hunsaker, 1:14; Hunsaker won by decision over Michael Carr (Lake City High School), 7-0; Hunsaker won by decision over Neil Lockwood (Deer Park), 6-2; Elijah Kilborn (Central Valley) won by decision over Hunsaker, 4-2.
• Lewis Dunton (2-2) — 145 pounds: Dunton won by pin over Jordan Scrivner (Kelso), 1:26; Colton Orrino (Central Valley) won by pin over Dunton, 2:38; Dunton won by decision over Adrian Avena (Todd Beamer), 5-2. Isias Jimenez (Quincy) won in sudden victory 1 over Dunton, 9-7.
